Recovering Haiku Audio When media_server Stops Responding

Separate driver, mixer, application, and Media Kit service failures while preserving evidence for a reproducible report.

Test a second application and inspect Media preferences before assuming hardware failed. Record the selected input/output, driver, sample format, and recent package changes. Check system logs for media_server, media_addon_server, and driver errors.

Close clients that may hold nodes, then use Haiku’s supported media-service restart action or reboot; killing random team IDs can leave dependent services inconsistent. If the problem returns, disable third-party media add-ons and retest with the default mixer.

Capture a minimal sequence, hardware identifier, Haiku revision, and logs. Audio that returns after restart is evidence of a service state failure, not proof the root cause is fixed.
